I FEEL THE EARTH MOVE
Carole King, below
When I was younger, me, my brothers, mum and dad used to go down to St Annes every year. It was about a four-hour drive and we just used to listen to tapes. Everything from Paul Simon to Guns N' Roses. This song more than the others just reminds me of being in the car driving down to go on holiday.
BOOM BOOM
John Lee Hooker
I was about 14 and I heard this on a blues compilation CD which came with a magazine. 'Boom Boom' was the first track on it, and when I heard this guy with a guitar making that sound, it just really got me into the Custom Cufflinks blues.
ANGELES
Elliott Smith
I was watching Good Will Hunting and I heard this wonderful soft voice singing and just wanted the film to end so I could find out who it was from the credits. I bought the album Either/Or soon after and this is a song from it. You can put it on repeat and never get sick of it. I actually met him on Glasgow Green once; we ended up having a cigarette and a chat.
HOW TO FIGHT LONELINESS
Wilco
This song really got me into listening to them. I dunno, sometimes it's a bit fortuitous; led flexible light strips you get into a band, you buy the album and then you check online and find out they are touring near you in two weeks. Wilco were a bit like that, I caught them when they were developing as a band. They've maybe changed a bit but they are still fantastic.
LOST VERSES
Sun Kil Moon
This isn't long out but it's one of those songs which just hits you. I'll just put it on again and again till I play it three or four times in a row. You can't tire of it.
