WOMEN believe they have a better chance of breaking through the ''glass ceiling'' at work if they are attractive, new research has revealed.

A poll of 600 working women by website handbag.com and Barclays showed that most complained of prejudices which held them back. Two-thirds said they had a better chance of progressing their career if they were attractive.

"However, it's great to see that that these old-fashioned views aren't stopping women realising their dream and setting up their own business.'' Another survey showed that men in senior business positions outnumbered women by more than three to one.
Research for information services firm Experian found that women directors were usually working in traditional female industries such as health and social services, but were severely under-represented in other sectors such as finance.
