Heart and Soul Community Services will once again enrich the lives of many area school children this weekend.

The charity's annual "Touch of Love" Back-to-School Supply Giveaway takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 10, at Sunkist Elementary School, 935 Mayland Avenue in La Puente.

Heart and Soul, in partnership with Assemblyman Dr. Ed Hernandez (57th District), will handout academic supplies, health screenings, new shoes and clothing and other prizes to hundreds of children and their families.

The families are from five Bassett Unified School district schools.

Maxine Coleman is the founder and president of Heart and Soul.

Its mission is to assist "at risk" youth who are academically, financially and socially disadvantaged in order to give them confidence and a more positive outlook about their future.

BARRIOS REUNION

La Historia Historical Society Museum of El Monte will host a "Barrios Reunion" from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10.

This continues the tradition of the early neighboring barrios gatherings, dating back to the early 1900s.

The free event takes place at Pioneer Park Log Cabin, 3535 Santa Anita Ave. in El Monte.

For this potluck meal, participants are asked to bring a favorite picnic dish to share.

No alcohol beverages are permitted. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating.

The festive event includes live music, historical exhibits, raffles, pinatas, and entertainment from La Historia's Folklorico Performing Arts Dance Group under the direction of Lucy V. Pedregon.

RODEO DAY

Plan to enjoy this weekend's 24th annual Industry Hills Pro Rodeo and help a worthy cause at the same time.

The 24th annual Industry Hills Pro Rodeo will take place Saturday, Oct. 10, and Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Industry Hills Expo Center, 16200 Temple Ave. in the City of Industry.

On Saturday, the gates open at 4 p.m. with rodeo events starting at 6 p.m. On Sunday, gates open at noon with events starting at 2 p.m.

Ticket cost is $6 for children through age 11, $10 for senior citizens 60 , and $15 for adults with free parking.

All proceeds support the Gabriel Foundation.

The rodeo events are very exciting because they feature the top professional rodeo performers in the country.

Industry's rodeo qualifies as one of the major events in the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) National Rodeo Circuits, with total prize money of more than $32,000 over the two days. Competitors are also from the Women's Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA).
