- ONE hundred and five children from the Cowper Orphanage were taken on a picnic outing to Evans Head by a group of Casino residents. Weather at the beach was perfect for the picnic, which has become an annual highlight for the Cowper children. The children travelled by bus from Cowper. During the morning they swam, were taken for pony rides, and travelled on the miniature train to the beach. Races were held on the beach, and each child received a cash prize.

Records were equalled or broken in all championship events run last night.

Martin and B. Bradley had given Westlawn a first innings' lead of 37, but Central was bundled out for 38. Martin (55) and Bradley (33) became associated when Westlawn had lost six for 51 and was still 54 runs behind Central's first innings' total. When Martin was dismissed after a whirlwind innings, the score was 131. Martin hit three sixes and Bradley one.
